From Berkey to Reverse Osmosis Water

A few months ago, I received an email from Amazon notifying me that I had a refund for $180.83. Like everyone, I love an unexpected deposit into my bank account…but I started digging in a bit deeper to see why I was receiving this payment.

As it turns out, it was a refund for the Berkey Water Filters that had been ordered just months prior. Although we never got the full story from Amazon, the best we can guess is that the seller was not, in fact, an authorized dealer and had gone to great lengths to deceive customers. (They even applied the hologram sticker for authorized dealers!)

What on earth have we been drinking for the past few months?
What on earth had my kids been drinking for months?

If a company would go to great lengths to deceive us in the marketing, I can’t even imagine what substances were in my water. Even if the filters had been perfectly fine, the new legal troubles with the EPA and private testing have made me question what in the world is actually in the water!

Clean water is such an important piece of a healthy lifestyle, not to mention, healthy skin!

It is certainly one of the basics – food, water, sleep. So I decided to break up with my Berkey, and begin to use a new kind of system.

My Solution

As you can imagine, I really wanted a water filter solution that would leave no questions about what was actually in the water! After a lot of research, we decided to purchase a Reverse Osmosis Water Filter. If you aren’t familiar with these, they can essentially remove almost everything from your water, including important minerals.

We needed a portable unit, and spent a while researching different models. We landed on the Bluevua Reverse Osmosis water filter system. If you are curious about getting one too, here are some considerations:

The Cons

  1. Something on the Counter:  Since we are a military family, and moving is always a possibility, it was important to purchase something that would be mobile. If we ended up moving, this water filter needed to come with us, rather than being plumbed into our kitchen. So this put us into the category of needing something on our counter. I love clear counters, so this was a sacrifice, but worth the trade of being mobile.

  2. Refills: Since it is a mobile unit, it needs to be refilled multiple times a day.

  3. Remineralization: The water has no minerals, so you have to remember to remineralize your water.

The Pros

  1. Squeaky Clean: I have a higher confidence that I am drinking clean water. Our specific machine has a 4-part filtration system that removes 99.9% of all contaminants.

  2. Great Taste: Super clean water tastes great, and it’s easy to stay hydrated throughout the day.

  3. Easy Filter Changes: The filters last about a year (you can see on the device when you need to change them) and it is super easy to switch out. Our Berkey filters were a bit of a pain to change.

When you start learning about all of the toxins and chemicals in our every day environment, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed and blurt out, "It seems like everything is poisonous!"

So I focus on the things that have the biggest impact, and I would certainly put clean water in that category!

If you have any questions about this system, please don't hesitate to ask! I am happy to share.

Warmly,

Amy
